Ghoulish Delight?

I’m so not into ghoulish stuff like blood and gore or scary movies.  Even thriller books can give me the creeps.  I prefer to stay in the light and not in the darkness.  Poltergeist was the only scary movie I’ve ever seen.  I went with friends when I was younger, forced to go because they said it would be fun.  My best friend Kay ended up holding my hand when I was scared as I hid my face with the other hand.  Never again I vowed and I’ve stuck with it.  No Amityville Horror house either!  No fun houses, haunted houses or even haunted hay rides or cornfield mazes as they are NOT my thing either.  I once went to a famous haunted house where you pay to get scared (not ghosts, but fake, bloodied people who scare you) and I flipped out!  Luckily, one of the actors felt sorry for me and let me escape through a fire door.  Yes, I’m that girl.  Sigh.

I like Halloween when you can dress up and pretend to be someone you’re not.  In my fantasy brain, I’d be something sexy like Marilyn Monroe if I were to dress up, but I don’t have the guts to do it.  Usually I wear ears, a tail and a mask and call myself a black cat.  Occasionally I’ll be a witch, complete with long grey-haired wig and pointed hat.  But that’s it.

So today is all about giving out candy for me.  Don’t tell me spooky tales.  Don’t tell me about haunted places.  I don’t want to know.

And yet, I do believe in ghosts.  I believe that the veil is thinner around this time.  I have had experiences with non-explainable entities.  I have had encounters with spirits, some that were nice, some that weren’t.  So I’m not immune.  I just like it in my own way and I don’t like to be scared intentionally.  Fear is not fun for me.

How about you?  Are you into ghoulish delights?  Do you like the gory movies?  Scary haunted places?  Do you dress up for Halloween?

  1. I love everything halloween, my husband and I always go all out, but I am the biggest scaredy-cat! I watch horror movies between my fingers and still get jumpy!

Good for you to even attempt to watch those movies! My hands are needed to cover my eyes and ears so I give you a lot of credit! I’m glad you and your husband enjoy the holiday together! That’s awesome!!

I’m not so much into super scary stuff and scary movies are a giant nope for me because they give me nightmares, but I LOVE to dress up and adore Halloween. For me it is all about the pretend and getting to be creative with makeup and costuming. We go all out and decorate our garage with creepy stuff, but it isn’t really all that scary. We have the occasional little one that won’t come up the driveway, but that is pretty rare. This will be the second year that my kids don’t trick-or-treat and BG dresses up with me to man the garage. MC hangs in his room, only coming out to do the drive by raid on the candy bucket.

I’m giggling TJ! Glad it was fun though! I would be like MC and raid the candy bucket! I love to see all the kids come to the house though, all the different costumes! We didn’t have any trick o’treaters this year. Guess the kids and I will eat it all on our own! Glad I didn’t buy a ton of candy! Gotta watch my waistline! ha ha

    Everyone to their own thing!
But like you it`s not for me …no thanks! But I smiled when you described your love of being a cat, my daughter`s go to look for years!

  4. I’m not into dressing up, I think Halloween is more of an American thing although some of the houses in the street where we live had trimmed up. England is catching up 🎃😬
