Has This Happened To You?

I had the pest control guy come to my house yesterday.  It was a scheduled appointment and I’ve been using the same company for three years, but I always get a different technician (is that what you call them?).  He was supposed to arrive in the afternoon, but called around 11am to see if he could come over since he was in the neighborhood and I agreed.

I hadn’t showered, but I put on some decent clothing and twisted my hair up into a clip. Yesterday was a quiet day for me, so I wasn’t in any hurry.  He arrived and began his job which included going into the basement and checking the mice baits.  I had to go with him because I wanted to make sure he checked every one of them. All went well until about halfway through when he started being really flirty with me.  I mean, really flirty which was ridiculous because I’m probably 15+ years his senior and I wasn’t thinking of him in that way at all.  And at first, I thought he was just being nice and making conversation.  But after awhile, it was clear.

It was awkward to say the least.  When I called him on it by stating the obvious – he is married – he told me that he’s in an open marriage.  I told him I’m not that type of girl.  It was so bizarre! I told a friend last night what happened and she said a similar thing happened to her with a pest control guy, but from a different company.  Do women really fall for that stuff?  Seriously?

Have you ever had a worker come to your house and hit on you?

No, but I was a service tech for my company when I first started, and I was hit on many times. Some made me very nervous.

I can’t imagine what makes people think that they can hit on us – both you and me. I was nervous too.

In one particular case, this young woman had just left the shower, with hair still wet. She had a towel wrapped around her and didn’t change while I worked. People think that is something exciting, but it’s really not. It scared the life out of me.

I would imagine it would! Guess she thought you would take her up on her invitation. People are so strange sometimes. Aren’t they? Glad you escaped…I guess because I’d never do such a thing, it wouldn’t ever occur to me. I’m sorry that happened to you. Scary indeed!

  2. i had a 23 yr old tree trimmer ask me out for dinner, no thank you! I think they all fish to see who bites. Not me. Ever.

Oh how awful! I would have been so uncomfortable. Not to mention the fact that this was completely unprofessional.

I was so uncomfortable with it.And I have to wonder if he does this with other single women as well…I changed the follow up visit so hopefully he won’t be the next technician.

You could always file a complaint with the company. They should know if they have an employee that is attempting to prey on their clients.

I want to do that, but he has my phone number and address…makes it awkward. I just changed the time/date so that hopefully he isn’t the technician that comes here again.
It’s an awkward spot when you’re a single woman. The kids were here but they were upstairs so he didn’t see them. I guess that made it ok in his head to say what he did. Next time, I will have the kids downstairs with me for good measure and protection.

One time I had a company out for an estimate and the guy dropped a steep trip charge on me that wasn’t mentioned when I scheduled the appointment. I was home alone at the time and felt really uncomfortable arguing with him about it, so let it go and just paid it. It made me rethink almost all of my in-home appointments. Any new company, I try to have Hubby around for the appointments. I hate that I feel the need to do this, but I’d rather feel safe and comfortable than not.

I agree with you. Better to be safe than sorry. Lucky you have hubby around to be there. I will make sure my kids are around next time. I’m sorry that happened to you. That sounds like a bogus charge though to me. I understand why you just paid it. I would have too.

I’d report him. If I was the owner of the company I’d want to know I’ve got an employee who is behaving inappropriately🧐

That’s creepy; the guy should lose his job. No wonder there’s a huge turnover.

  7. You make a good point about not filing a complaint because he has your details. It does feel predatory but I know many a young man who has this fantasy – in reality though, even in my ‘single’ period I would want to be really attracted to the guy, feel safe and in the mood to take up an offer!

Thanks for understanding! I don’t understand the whole fantasy part, but I wasn’t interested. Period. I’m not looking for a fling etc. Hopefully he won’t be returning to my house for the follow up visit and it’s done. 🙂
